Today was Green Eggs and Ham day!!! It was another great day in Kindergarten!
The morning started off making a Dr. Seuss door hanger! It was funny to hear the kids say how they were going to use it to keep parents and siblings out of their rooms!!
Next we had morning meeting. We a few additional steps to our morning meeting routine. We not have a math story problem that we make a number sentence for and solve. We also discuss even/odd numbers. We also have a weather chart that we will be keeping! These are things that will help encourage critical thinking in your children each morning!
During fundations time we discussed word families an, ap, and at. We will be hitting word families and blends hard in the next several weeks. These will help children tap less and identify bigger words easier!
Centers time we had 2 rotations
Language arts we finished our fundations packets and then I read aloud a book about oceans and we made a main idea web. We talked about what the main idea is and how we can identify it using supporting details found in the text. This concept is difficult for Kindergarten but it is huge in the common core national standards and children must know how to do this at a young age. They will need to identify the main idea and supportive details in the text. We talk about main idea every time we read!
Following lunch our read aloud book was Green Eggs and Ham. We read and discussed parts of the text: beginning, middle and ending.
After reading we had writing time. The kids each created a page that I will put together for a classroom book. The book is titled I will not eat green..... All the food they wrote about started with I will not eat green.... I will not eat it...... The kids had a blast coming up with ideas for this writing! They also got to create an illustration to go along with what they wrote!
Math time was spent doing 3 minute math and dice subtraction The kids worked with a partner to roll dice. They used the larger number to start their number sentence with and then the smaller number to subtract from the larger number. They all did a great job with this activity and it is a great way for them to have fun while subtracting!
They had outside recess today - Please remember to pack all their snow gear for tomorrow!!
Our snack activity today was creating a green egg from vanilla pudding and a vanilla wafer! They started out with vanilla pudding and I put a drop of green food coloring in it for them to mix around. Then they flattened it out to resemble a fried egg. The wafer was used to represent the yolk! They loved doing this and eating it! Afterwards we took a survey of who enjoyed eating the snack and all but 1 said they liked it!
We then packed up and went to art to finish our day!
It was a great day today! Tomorrow will be Cat in The Hat Day!!!!!
This is the pages for our classroom I do not like green.... book Class book pages!
Tuesday's in class Activities!
Enjoy the snow =)
